I received a Diploma in Mathematics from the University of Bologna and a Ph.D. in Machine Learning from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (IDIAP Research Institute). In September 2011, I joined Microsoft Research Cambridge as a post-doctoral researcher. Before that, I worked as a Marie-Curie fellow at the Statistical Laboratory and as a post-doctoral researcher at the Max-Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics in the Department of Empirical Inference. My research interests are based around Probabilistic Models, Graphical Models, Bayesian Methods, Approximate Inference, Time-Series Analysis and their applications to real-world problems. NEWS Internships at Microsoft: I am looking for good PhD students that are interested in doing an internship on biomedical projects. I am currently working on a project related to understanding the mechanisms of ageing. More specifically, I am developing new probabilistic models of biological aging, whose goal is to obtain a more accurate estimate of the age of an individual's biological system than chronological age. Currently, I am focusing on the creation of biological aging models of the respiratory system from measured lung function, taking into account environmental exposures such as smoking, asthma, etc. In the future, I would like to develop a more general model of biological aging that includes several organ systems in addition to the respiratory system. If you are interested in working with me on this project, please contact me. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I co-organized the Cambridge Statistics Initiative Special One-Day Meeting at the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences Cambridge in September 2011. I co-edited a book on Bayesian Time-Series Models that has beeen published in August 2011 by Cambridge University Press. |
